You may remember, towards the end of 2018, we wrote an article regarding the number of unoccupied homes across the country . These empty homes surpassed the number of new homes needed to be built each year in order to alleviate the housing shortage, and could provide at least a partial solution to the current supply and demand crisis.
This week more reports on the subject have surfaced, stating that the number of homes left empty across England for at least six months has increased again by another 5.3% in the 12 months to October 2018 which, records show, is the highest level since 2012.
This is now the second year in a row that the number of empty homes has risen - a concerning trend for a country with a shortage of homes.
The UK Government has famously pledged billions for housing over the past few years, setting targets of 1.5 million new homes to be built by 2022, and yet we are still falling far short of the mark. Allowing those in need of housing, and those wanting to get on the property ladder, the opportunity to purchase or rent these unoccupied homes could go some way to finding a solution to the housing crisis when combined with the increased house builder activities.
In the meantime, Intro Crowd are continuing to provide qualified investors with the opportunity to collectively fund the purchase of strategic land sites across the country. These sites are greenfield in nature and therefore have had no prior development. They are located close to existing settlements and can often be considered the next logical place for development. Due to their proximity to existing settlements, they will typically have road access as well as access to local amenities such as shops, schools and medical care which makes them sustainable in nature. This in turn can make them attractive for house builders.
Once these sites are fully funded via our online platform, our experienced Planning Team will put them through the planning process and, if successful, will aim to sell them on to a house builder for residential development therefore helping to alleviate some of the strain on the housing market.
